Khelif’s success in the 2024 Paris Olympics
The 66kg women’s category Olympic champion was Algerian Imane KHELIF. With a faultless performance, the Algerian boxer defeated Liu YANG (CHN) to win by a resounding 5:0 unanimous decision. Her triumph proved her superiority not just in the competition but also in her weight class.

After Hocine Soltani’s victory in 1996, KHELIF’s historic victory was Algeria’s first Olympic medal in women’s boxing and made her nation’s second boxing gold medalist.

In the Men’s 71kg category, Asadkhuja MUYDINKHUJAEV won gold, making it a victory for Team Uzbekistan. The 23-year-old dominated the opening two rounds against Marco Alonso VERDE ALVAREZ of Mexico, showcasing remarkable boxing prowess and cutting strikes. Despite garnering the support of all five judges during his impressive comeback in the third round, the Mexican fighter was unable to overcome MUYDINKHUJAEV’s lead. With a dominant 5:0 victory, the Uzbek boxer cemented his status as the new Olympic champion in his respective division.
MUYDINKHUJAEV showed his happiness following the game by saying, “I just want to thank all the people back home who have supported me.” I’m content. I’ve won both the Olympic and world championships now. That was the reason I traveled to Paris. I’ve fulfilled all of my dreams and am currently the most well-known young boxer globally.
Regarding Uzbekistan’s prowess in boxing, he continued, “We help each other.” We honor one another. We are a family, not just a team. That is the reason for our great success. Our coaches are like fathers to us, and we revere them. My three teammates are still competing in their respective finals. I hope we return to Uzbekistan with five gold medals, and I wish them well. But honor to all of my rivals. They are excellent combatants.
Lazizbek MULLOJONOV of Uzbekistan put on a strong show as he won the Men’s 92kg final, defeating Loren Berto ALFONSO DOMINGUEZ (AZE), who was born in Cuba. The 25-year-old won a resounding 5:0 unanimous decision to earn a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris thanks to the 1st World Qualifying Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy. With his outstanding performance, first-time Olympian MULLOJONOV dispelled all doubts by defeating the Azerbaijani bronze medalist in Tokyo 2020.

Uzbekistan might win five gold medals, which would double their total from all prior Games, if they manage to qualify two more athletes for the finals on Saturday.
Yu WU of the People’s Republic of China won the gold medal in the women’s 50kg final, defeating Buse Naz CAKIROGLU of Turkey.
