There’s plenty of cushioning in the form of the EGO Max foam running the length of the shoe to provide a natural riding experience on the trails. Made to cover the trails quickly, the full-length rocker-shaped midsole of the Sylan naturally helps roll your foot forward in a smooth and controlled manner. The design feels very natural and previously one not experienced in a trail shoe. The EVA and Polyolefin midsole has a hint of a super-shoe feel about it, with a responsive nature, and alongside the rocker makes for a great, fast ride.
The Vibram Metagrip Litebase sole is great for traction and keeps weight down, while the Gore-Tex upper adds waterproof protection. Arc’Teryx might not be one of the first brands that come to mind for trail running shoes, but this model certainly excels and has a surprisingly fast and agile feel.

With a deep midsole stack of the brand’s premium cushioning foam, Fresh Foam X, the Hierro v8 feels very much like an off-road capable version of New Balance’s premium road shoe, the 1080. The ride is soft and smooth and with a slight tweak to the shoe’s geometry, very stable on the trail.
Printed overlays to the upper provide additional protection from the trails and undergrowth, while the Gore-Tex adds waterproofing. The Vibram outsole features small lugs covering the entire length and width of the shoe’s sole that give a secure bite on any surface.
