Omius product is designed to cool marathon runners and was used by Sifan Hassan, Hellen Obiri, and Eliud Kipchoge at Paris 2024
New Olympic women’s marathon champion Sifan Hassan, double Olympic gold medallist Eliud Kipchoge and bronze medallist Hellen Obiri were seen wearing strange headbands during the Paris Olympic marathons, leaving spectators wondering what purpose these unusual pieces of apparel served.
Mysterious headband
Of course, elite athletes are no strangers to the latest hi-tech equipment and the Olympics serve as an ideal place to showcase products to a global audience.
Over the years Kipchoge has worn Nike’s latest footwear innovations, dating back in Rio 2016 where he wore the first prototypes of the Nike ‘Next %’ shoes disguised as in-line products. This ultimately led to World Athletics ruling that all products should be available to all athletes.
In other marathons, Kipchoge has been seen sporting stick-on tape on his legs to aid airflow.
Obiri was wearing On’s latest footwear in the women’s Olympic marathon, the CloudBoom LS. The LS meaning LightSpray, is a unique upper created by spraying a polymer directly onto the midsole unit of the shoe to reduce weight and create a second-skin-like fit.
The £330 CloudBoom LS will be available to buy later this year, but a version without the LS upper is currently on sale.

The headband both athletes wore was an OMIUS headband with 20 cooling pieces. The cooling pieces are graphite coated in a hydrophilic material that is said to “optimize the uptake and evaporation of the water that powers the cooling effect”.
The brand says the headband needs to be wet before use and “will cool indefinitely as long as they are wet” – the theory being that they act like a ‘heatsink’ seen in engineering equipment.

Omius – Headband with Cooling Pieces – White
The Omius headband, visors, and covers are particularly planned with a silicon lattice to hold the Omius cooling pieces. The network holds the pieces set up and in direct contact with the skin. The cooling pieces are replaceable and adaptable, starting with one structure factor and then onto the next. The items are made of the greatest quality flexible material for an ergonomics and agreeable fit. The flexible material of the headband and cap fits most head sizes. The visor is customizable.
The headband comes packaged with a 20-pack of Better than ever cooling pieces.

The Omius Innovation
At the point when water or sweat vanishes on the outer layer of the skin it retains intensity and cools the body.
The intensified cooling impact of the Omius innovation comes from water being retained into the cooling pieces where it has 5x more surface region for vanishing. The change of water from a fluid to a gas on the outer layer of the graphite pulls heat from within the cooling pieces which are in touch with the skin and hence cooling the skin.
Since the cooling impact is driven exclusively by water dissipation the impact will proceed with endlessly however long the cooling pieces are wet and have wind current across them.
The cooling pieces are made of a profoundly thermally conductive graphite covered in a hydrophilic covering that upgrades the take-up and dissipation of the water that controls the cooling impact.
