The teenager starts 2025 off with a bang after clocking 3:49.47 over 1500m at the BMC Sheffield Grand Prix
Evan Grime has continued where he left off in 2024, after setting a UK under-17 indoor 1500m record.
The British middle-distance running teenager clocked 3:49.47 in the 1500m at the BMC Sheffield Grand Prix (January 19) after finishing sixth.
The mark, recorded at the English Institute of Sport center, is three seconds quicker than the previous indoor best of 3:52.53 in the age category – set by Oscar Schofield at the same event in 2023.
The 16-year-old recorded a personal best of 3:47.72 outdoors in the 1500m last summer in Loughborough, making him the fastest under-17 male over the distance in 2024, and ninth on the UK all-time list.

However, his record-breaking feats are not limited to the 1500m. In December, Grime made waves in the 3000m by setting a British under-17 indoor record of 8:23.76 in Cardiff.
Last summer, he added another remarkable achievement to his growing list of records. Competing in Bury, he ran a world age-15 best of 4:05.48 for the mile, solidifying his reputation as one of Britain’s rising stars.
The Salford Harrier ran the fastest UK under-17 800m of 2024, running 1:49.69 at the BMC meet in Manchester in May. Later in August, he ran another impressive 3000m outdoors in Bury, clocking 8:36.89.

Grime’s successful 2024 also saw him represent Great Britain internationally, competing at the European Under-18 Championships in Banská Bystrica, where he finished seventh in the 1500m final.
Back on home soil, he won the 800m at the prestigious Night of the 10,000m PBs event.
Grime, coached by his father and former international runner Ian, is also a regular on the cross-country circuit. In November, he finished second behind Jack Marwood in the under-17 category at the Liverpool Cross Challenge and placed fourth at the Cardiff Cross Challenge.
Grime has further solidified his domination in middle-distance events by setting a new record in the 1500m and already holding the UK No. 1 mark in the 3000m. As he continues to compete at a high level, his impressive start to the year portends a bright future. Athletes like Grime have been able to showcase their abilities and thrive on a national level thanks to the England Athletics events.
Everyone will be watching Grime closely as the season goes on to see how he builds on his early success and what records he could aim for next. His accomplishments serve as an inspiration to others in the sport and are a tribute to the effort and commitment that young athletes put into their preparation.
