Soccer Training Methodologies

The development of modern football has turned it into a science with different methods to train and develop technique and fitness. These methods are favorable to program the season through “macrocycles” divided into cycles dedicated to improving conditioning skills in tasks without the ball.

Methods similar to the traditional model have been developed, except that they use the ball to develop more individual technical and tactical skills, but always with the aim of reaching and improving the physical element of each player.

Over the years, real coaching models have been developed in the grassroots football world, able to respond to the coaching problems of coaches and above all to improve the learning of young people.

What are teaching methods in football training?

When we talk about teaching methods, we mean a sequence of exercises arranged in a block, which we perform with the aim of achieving a result. Under certain training conditions, it may be more advantageous to train in one way or the other.

For example, the playful method is often used in school sports, since it is considered more effective for achieving the final goal. Simple exercise methods are used in the strengthening phase and learning of techniques for players aged 8 to 15 years, while complex exercise methods are used to train older players.

Below we will introduce some of them!

GLOBAL OR INTEGRAL METHOD

This method is a great motivator for the participants as it tests their physical and mental abilities to defeat the opponent. Thanks to the global or integral method, players can train tactical, technical and physical aspects at the same time, so that they can be developed simultaneously later during the game.

SPANISH INTEGRATED METHOD

The Integrated Spanish Method includes structured tasks with the ball, allowing you to train four components at the same time. This method recreates specific situations from real games depending on the goal you want to achieve.

We want to highlight the “Integrated Spanish Method” because many Spanish teams want to work with the ball, develop and tactically in every task. Also, players in the under-14 group are not divided by position, but try out positions in rotation. Each training is programmed step by step,

Which are generally 5:

  • In the 1st, players usually work with the ball individually to improve their control and touch.
  • In the 2nd, players use both feet.
  • In the 3rd, players work on possession in different rooms and with different numbers of players.
  • In the 4th, collective tactical games are held to prepare players for real-life situations they may face during a game.
  • The fifth and final phase features a thematic free game where coaches check the players’ learning progress based on the suggestions made in the day’s sessions.

DEDUCTIVE SYSTEM

In this method, the soccer player carries out various activities, which are expressly aimed at learning a series of fundamentals, but in a completely isolated way from the game.

TACTICAL PERIODIZATION METHOD

The coach creates a schedule based on the game model he creates, taking into account the club’s philosophy, the qualities and characteristics of the players and the game principles that the coach wants to apply to all phases of the match. This model defines the system of relationships between the players of the team in any situation.

Therefore, proposing a thematic game, where the players line up by position as in a game, instead of taking on off-ball duties to increase resistance, will allow the team to create connections between them and improve the tactical organization that will be important during the match. If the players can do this, not in random areas of the field in a general way, but in areas of the field that they will occupy later in the game, they will have the opportunity to improve the details later during practice, which will be important.

The initiative creates highly structured interactions between players in all circumstances, allowing them to accelerate their gambling problems, and is carried out with the aim of rewarding young people for their extremely positive play, which is a very applicable method for young players.

COMPLEX EXERCISE METHOD

In this way, many factors can be changed to increase the difficulty of the exercise, such as changing the numbers of the defense so that the attacking side first acts with numerical superiority, then acts on equal terms, and finally acts with numerical inferiority. You can also change the requirements of the exercise by increasing or decreasing the scope.

Finally, not only do you need to know where you start and where you want to go, but you also need to be aware of what path you will take to reach your goal.
